Research and Development at BBBSEC
Research and Development initiatives forms important part of our future road map and BBSBEC has envisioned itself to be become a well known name in research and development activities. Research and development activities are encouraged at both departmental and institute level. Research centers equipped with required infrastructure and other facilities are being established in various departments for furthering this cause. These research centers with inputs from industry and funding agencies would develop the vision of research. Performance of theses research center will be measured in terms of funding received, publications, patents and conferences/seminars organized.

Key research Initiatives

  • Wireless and Mobile Networking

  • Digitization and web hosting of books

  • Surface Engineering for Wear and Corrosion Protection

  • Cryogenic Treatment of Materials

  • Optimization of EDM Process

  • Non-traditional Manufacturing

Sponsored Projects

A research project entitled “Development of Erosion-Corrosion Resistant Thermal Spray Coatings for Power Plant Boilers” from Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt of India, New Delhi under the SERC Fast Track Proposals for Young Scientists Scheme of DST, India worth Rs. 7.68 lakhs.

Research project entitled ”Experimentation for Improvement in Surface Properties of Die and Tool Steels by EDM Process” from Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India, New Delhi worth Rs. 16 lakhs.

Career Award for Young Teachers (CAYT) for the year 2006-07 by All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi for a research project on ’Role of Post-Coating Treatments on the Erosion-Corrosion Performance of the Thermal Spray Coatings’ worth Rs. 10.5 lacs.

Networking and Communication Research center

This center has been established for advancement of research and development in the field of Wireless and Mobile Networking. The main thrust area is to address the mobility and QOS issues pertaining the next generation wireless Networks. Work on tailoring of TCP/IP and it,s performance evaluation in the wireless environments will also be pursued. Center will be looking forward for real time projects from industry and various research organizations and governments bodies like DST, MHRD and AICTE. Some of the envisioned goals of the center are summarized below.

  • To pursue research in emerging areas of wireless and mobile networking and associated areas.

  • Disseminate research results through journal and conference publications, technical reports, and software under GPL licenses.

  • Interact with industries and research organizations for collaborations, technology transfer, student internships and placements.

  • To make efforts for external research funding Organize/Sponsor conferences/seminars and workshops on current topics.

  • Be recognized as a Center for Excellence in the field of Wireless and Mobile Networking.

Universal Digital Library

This project is a part of universal digital library project started by Carnegie melon university U.S.A and Indian institute of science Bangalore. Universal digital library aims at digitization and web hosting one million books by 2005. Baba Banda Singh Bahadur engineering college Fatehgarh Sahib has been set as a scanning center under this project and is currently doing the work of scanning the documents and rare manuscripts of the language department Punjab.Under this project B.B.S.B College has received a high End MINOLTA 7000 scanner, which can scan 10000 pages per day along with image processing and OCR software by Carnegie Melon University U.S.A. as a part of grant to implement this work.

Academic Research

Post graduate programs have been started in all the departments of the college, which have given further impetus to the research activities in the college. Students do their thesis work and are encouraged to publish their work in leading journals and conference proceedings. Large number of faculty members are also doing their Masters and doctorate, thereby contributing to the research pool.
