Admissions


Admission is done on the basis of CET merit for the 85% Punjab State Quota and on the basis of AIEEE merit for the 15% other States' Quota. 2/3% seats are filled through the central counseling conducted by PTU, while 1/3% management quota seats are filled by the college. In addition to the statutory reservations made by the government, the college has reservation for rural area candidates as well as for Sikh minority community students. The statutory reservations are given in detail in the PTU Information Brochure.

A.) Rural Reservation

Overall 70% seats shall be filled by the students hailing from rural area in Punjab. Rural area means area located outside the limits of Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committee, Notified Area Committee, Cantonment Board, Township & University campus. A student hailing from rural area means:

I) His/Her parents are permanently residing in the rural area as defined above.
II) He/She has studied for a minimum period of 5 years from a recognized/affiliated school located in rural area.
III) He/She has passed 5/8/10 or 10+2 from a school/ college located in rural area. Sons/Daughters of Defence Personal/ Ex-Defence personal residing permanently in rural area exempted from clause (ii) & (iii).

B) Management Quota

As per Government of Punjab Notification No.13/129/2003-1TE2/1030 dated 5.4.2004, there is “Management Quota” to the tune of 1/3% (one third of the total seats). Out of the “Management Quota” a maximum of 5% of the total sanctioned seats shall be filled from amongst Non-Residing Indian (NRI)/ Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)/ Foreign National Students and other related categories, in accordance with the procedure stipulated in the PTU Information Brochure . The Management shall fill these seats in accordance with the following order of preference:

i) Merit in Common Entrance Test-2008
ii) Merit in All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE).
iii) Marks secured in the qualifying examination.

For admission to these seats an advertisement will be published in leading newspapers (English and Punjabi) in due course of time. The fee for “Management Quota” seats shall be the same as for “State Quota” Seats.

C) Sikh Minority Community Reservation

50% seats are exclusively reserved for the members of the Sikh minority community in this College. For these students who are going to appear in CET-2008 being conducted by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar and wish to take admission in this college under this category, an Examination an Sikh Religion will be held at two Centers:
1) Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Dental Science & Research, Amritsar.
2) Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engg. College, Fatehgarh Sahib
3) Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College, Ludhiana

A candidate will be eligible for admission by securing minimum 36% marks in the religious test. Admission will however be made on the basis of CET-2008 merit candidate desirous of appearing in this test must report at BBSB Engg. College, Fatehgarh Sahib with the following documents during any working day. Roll numbers will be issued on the spot:
A) Affidavit under personal oath mentioning that “I belong to Sikh religion, abide by principle of Sikhism, faith in Ten Sikh Gurus and Sri Guru Granth Sahib maintain complete Sikh appearance (“Sikh Saroop”) wear Turban (only for male candidates), do not cut hair, do have word Singh/Kaur suffixed with the name and do not believe in any other sect”, should be duly attested by Judicial Magistrate/Oath Commissioner .
B) Photocopy of Admit Card of CET
C) Three attested photographs.
D) DD of Rs. 400/- in favour of Coordinator (SRE) payable at Fatehgarh Sahib/ Sirhind.

In case the name of the candidate does not include “Singh/Kaur”, the candidate will have to submit the cutting of the Newspaper carrying the advertisement for the change of the name. Suggested Books for preparation are (SGPC Publication):

The rule and regulations regarding admission and reservation are as per Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar instructions. The students can refer to CET-2008 Admission Brochure published by Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar for admission and detailed reservation policy of college.

Admission based on LEET 2008

There are 10% seats, as under, in each B.Tech. Programme for admission of diploma holder to 2nd year/ 3 semester. The admission to 2/3% seats will be made by the Punjab Technical University on the basis of Lateral Entry Engineering Test-2007 conducted by it. The 1/3% Management Quota seats shall be filled in accordance with the criteria, as laid down by PTU. For detailed information candidates must refer to the LEET-2008 Information Brochure of PTU:

Information Technology : 6
Mechanical Engineering : 6

Duration of Degree

The duration of BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY course will be four years, divided into eight semesters. The duration of each semester will be 20 weeks, according to the following schedule:-

August to December Odd Semester (1,3,5,7)
January to May Even semesters (1,2,4,6)
June to July Summer workshop/ Industrial Training/ Tours etc.

Administration Policy
(M.Tech. Programme CAD/CAM)

The eligibility criteria is 55% marks in B.Tech. from PTU or its equivalent in Mechanical/ Industrial/ Production/ Manufacturing/ Welding/ Material Science/ Metallurgy. The admission will be based on merit of average marks of 8 semesters of B.Tech. degree. The GATE qualified candidates will get preference. The distribution of seats is as under:

Sponsored : 05
SC/ST : 03

The candidate seeking admission to sponsored category must submit a sponsorship certificate from his/her employer. All candidates must attach a character certificate from the institution last attended, photocopies of B.Tech. Degree/DMC’s and three passport size photographs.
The fee and other charges are as prescribed by PTU and as applicable from time to time. The fee and other charges once deposited are not refundable/transferable.
